"... Eschenbach and his orchestra magically open up the imagination to a world of infinite possibility."
- Gramophone
"... a first-rate performance and recording ... easily outclassing most of the recent additions to the catalogue ... among my highest recommendations in any medium."
- Fanfare
"Four Stars ... there's a palpable presence in the brass chorales ... (the) sensitive mezzo, Yvonne Naef, breaks up the long phrases he demands with intelligence and conveys warm human sympathy throughout."
- BBC Music Magazine
One of the great Mahler conductors of our time, Christoph Eschenbach, leads the Philadelphia Orchestra on this double live album, recorded in May 2007, featuring the Second Symphony ("Resurrection"), among Mahler's most popular and successful works during his lifetime. The celestial Urlicht song of the fourth movement is performed by celebrated mezzo-soprano Yvonne Naef, while the famous chorus of the Finale highlights soprano Simona Šaturová joining Naef and the Philadelphia Singers Chorale.
