"Mainstream fans will drool over this baby!" - JazzTimes "The music by Hans and his friends is splendid ... it is the musical equivalent of finding buried treasure." - Jazz Profiles "... shows the saxophonist to great advantage ... he has gathered around him a group of talented sidemen that can swing with style. These are first-rate musicians who can play." - Seattle Post-Intelligencer Viennese-born saxophonist Hans Koller spent most of his career in Germany and as such remains fairly unknown to many North American jazz fans. He certainly had the credentials; in the years leading up to this recording, Koller worked with jazz legends including Dizzy Gillespie, Stan Kenton, Oscar Pettiford and Benny Goodman. The Jazzhaus label's Legends Live series serves to expose some of this obscure but superb European jazz to a wider audience. The material on this album was recorded in 1959 and 1960 with Koller's “friends,” consisting of Roger Guerin on trumpet, Michel de Villers on baritone saxophone, Martial Solal on piano, Fred Dutton on bass and Hartwig Bartz on drums. Percy Heath and Connie Kay of the Modern Jazz Quartet also appear on several songs along with the Hans Koller Brass Ensemble.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
