"Four Stars ... the likeable Swiss tenor Bernard Richter sings (imaginatively) ... baritone Iván Paley is lively in the buffo fun of Dice benissimo ... but the finest singing comes from Miah Persson ..."
- BBC Music Magazine

"Recording of the Month ... (Persson) has a beautiful voice with a crystal clear tone, easy high notes and elegant phrasing, all supported by an excellent technique, making these pieces the most enjoyable of the whole disc ... recording quality of the work is excellent ... booklet notes are also better than most: expertly written by Manfred Huss in a clear, attractive style ... an excellent work though the real star is not the singing but Haydn’s music. This, I believe, was Huss’s intention ... I loved this CD and it made me wonder why musicians do not record Haydn’s operatic works more often ..."
- MusicWeb International

Manfred Huss and his period ensemble Haydn Sinfonietta Wien celebrate the Haydn bicentenary with this 2009 release, the fifth in their series of highly acclaimed Haydn albums. Although the composer wrote more than 20 operas, mainly for the sumptuous theatre at Eszterháza, his work in the operatic field remains largely neglected. This programme focuses on an even more closely guarded secret: the so-called "insertion arias" Haydn wrote for inclusion in operas by other composers. These pieces, rarely if ever recorded, include Haydn's three contributions to La Circe and six of the surviving insertion arias. Swedish soprano Miah Persson shares the greater part of the album with Swiss tenor Bernard Richter.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
