"... Richter has crafted something that feels like a timeless nod to the past and yet an inventive ode to Woolf’s modernism ... yet another dazzling work that is full of echoes, of memories, of associations that celebrate and reflect this towering writer." - Drowned in Sound Following the success of Sleep, Max Richter reveals this project entitled Three Worlds: Music From Woolf Works, drawn from his music to Wayne McGregor’s award-winning Royal Ballet production Woolf Works. Just like the ballet, Richter’s album has a three part structure, built around themes from three of Virginia Woolf’s novels. Richter employs a vast palette of sounds, from solo instrumental and orchestral episodes to electronic textures and music for wordless soprano, even the unmistakeable chime of Big Ben heard above the noise of London traffic. Fragments from Woolf's letters, diaries and other writings are woven into the piece, with spoken words from Gillian Anderson, Sarah Sutcliffe and even Woolf herself, reading the essay Craftsmanship from a 1937 BBC recording. "When we began to discuss making the ballet, I hunted around for material of all kinds, photographs, memoirs, biographies. I never expected to find a recording of Virginia Woolf, this is the only one to survive. It’s like a tremendous time machine which allows you to hear her voice and wonderful use of language. I’ve used spoken word elements quite often in my work, so to come across Virginia Woolf reading her own words was like a Christmas present. That lit the fuse for the musical language of the ballet’s first act ... and the piece grew from there." - Max Richter

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
