Digital Booklet
Of the 25 mélodies with orchestra listed in the catalogue of Saint-Saëns, 19 are presented on this album, all recorded for the first time. Although the turn of the 20th century marked the golden age of French song, the genre was generally accompanied on the piano and only rarely orchestrated by its composers. But Saint-Saëns, a great lover of poetry, was also a champion of the orchestrated mélodie and the French colouristic style. Exoticism and a certain sense of the supernatural run through some of these songs, in particular the Danse macabre, one of the most popular classical pieces but always heard nowadays either in its version for orchestra alone or performed by a singer with piano accompaniment. The superb interpreters and musicians featured here enable the rediscovery of an entire segment of the history of vocal music.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
