The seven songs on The Great Unknown represent a fresh start for the Canadian singer-songwriter duo Kasha Anne and Mitch Smith, better known as The Orchard. After making an indelible impression on Canada’s country music scene with their first two releases, the Alberta natives instinctively knew heading into their third record that change was imminent. New sounds, a new producer and a new approach to writing and recording were all involved in creating The Great Unknown, a cosmic blend of rock, country and pop. It’s the realization of a vision the pair had from the beginning, to completely ignore genre definitions and just do what came naturally. Still, they needed a trusted hand to guide them in the studio and there was no one better than producer Jim Scott (Tedeschi Trucks Band, Marcus King Band). The results reveal The Orchard’s true identity for the first time, a songwriting partnership and band with a unique and exciting sound.
