Suzuki realises its quizzical turns and relishes the enriching set-pieces… another success chalked up for this continually impressive Bach series.” - Gramophone Composed in 1724 near the beginning of his time at Leipzig’s St Thomas church, this selection of three of J.S. Bach’s cantatas are chorale- rather than chorus-focused, and in this performance feature unusual Baroque instruments such as the tromba da tirarsi. Part of Bach’s second cantata cycle, the preeminent early music ensemble Bach Collegium Japan, led by Masaaki Sazuki, present these cantatas with skill and finesse as part of their monumental project to record all of Bach’s works in this genre.
