Digital Booklet
For several years, guitarist and lutenist Björn Colell and Baroque violinist Georg Kallweit, concertmaster of the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, have formed a noted duo called Ombra e Luce. With only two musicians and two instruments, they aspire to a perfect rapport and a permanent dialogue, drawing from a rich repertory of original pieces from the 16th to 18th centuries for violin and lute/theorbo, a widespread combination at the time. Colell and Kallweit put a great emphasis on tone colours and nuances, spontaneity and improvisatory playing; their flexible and sensual interpretations give full value to chiaroscuro, ombra e luce. "We are convinced that, played in this way, our 'early music' can speak directly to the hearts even of listeners who are hearing it for the first time ... Passaggio is the result of our recent musical journeys. Setting out from Italy to go farther north, we have virtually and musically crossed the Alps with our instruments. The works on this recording shed a different light on the music of the courts of Modena, Bologna and Venice." - Ombra e Luce

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
