"... Jurvanen may have been born in frigid Toronto, but when he records and performs under his musical alias of Bahamas, he brings warm, lush folk instrumentation."

"... sets the tone for the chilled-out collection, on which Jurvanen's guitar work is subtle and tasteful while still exhibiting his raw talent."
- Exclaim!

"... a quirky hybrid of folk, country and soft rock for which there are few readily available comparisons. There are moments that sound like they drifted in from a rose-coloured 1970s California, moments that unapologetically skirt the edges of 'yacht rock' and 'adult contemporary' in a manner that’s not at all icky. It’s just honest. Jurvanen is every bit as easygoing as the music he makes, and the man is not ashamed to sound smoooooothe."
- The Toronto Star

Bahamas is the brainchild of Canadian musician Afie Jurvanen. The title of this Juno Award-winning album leaves no doubt that the band and the musician are one and the same. A veritable one man band, Jurvanen recorded almost all the instruments and produced this album himself in his hometown of Toronto. With this record he pursues a far more complex sound than on his two previous albums, with a more developed arrangement of strings, brass, winds, orchestral percussion and chamber choruses.

"I know Brian Wilson did it and Elliott Smith did it, everybody does it, but for me, it was really new. I felt like a teenager or something. I had a bass world, a guitar world, a piano world. I could just run around in circles and if I had an idea I could just sort of act on it immediately. I do think that part of collaborating and working with other people is they end up tipping you off to things you wouldn’t think of otherwise, but for this one I just kinda wanted to be alone and see what happened.”

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
