Manhattan indie soul artist Arum Rae follows her 2016 EP Loners with the unplugged Sub Rosa, Latin for "under the rose," denoting secrecy or confidentiality. The phrase is directly connected to Rae, whose first name is derived from a variety of water lily. Sub Rosa features a collection of unique acoustic versions of previously released songs, along with fresh tracks from her full-length album, released in the fall of 2017.
Sub Rosa is a collection of past, present and future songs in what I consider to be their extra-pure forms. Some I recorded at home here in Manhattan and some at my friend’s studio in Brooklyn. Peeling back the layers for the sake of intimacy ... an act that is usually the fast track to heartache, but in this case, a dare in the midst of transition to propel forward."
