Kenny Wayne Shepherd leads his band in another musical twist, uniting classic blues with modern, electric sensibilities, blazing a fresh trail for the history of blues songwriting. Lay It On Down runs the gamut of blues-rock tradition from hard shuffles like Baby Got Gone and Down For Love to soulful ballads Diamonds & Gold and Hard Lesson Learned, with Shepherd and his band bringing their blues-rock expertise to a variety of genre-bending cuts, forming a delicately balanced release.
"The goal was to make a contemporary sounding record, something that was new and fresh and obviously doesn't sound like many of my other records. The last record I did (2014's Goin' Home) was traditional blues, so on this one I needed to do some different things, and I think we did."
