The Diapason d’Or winning Accademia Ottorino ensemble and their director Marco Ceccato present Il violoncello del cardinale, a collection of late 17th- and early 18th-century cello works by composer cellists who worked in Rome at this time under the patronage of the cardinals Pietro Ottoboni and Benedetto Pamphili. Not widely known today, composer performers such as Giuseppe Maria Perroni, Giovanni Bononcini, and Nicola Haym formed an integral part of the fabric of the Holy city, producing numerous works for their employers which enriched the extensive musical life that went on there.
