“For those who don’t already own these recordings, suffice it to say that each performance is one of the greatest ever on disc... I know no other recording [of Pelléas et Mélisande] that manages throughout to maintain the fascination of this one.”
- Richard A. Kaplan, Fanfare
This digitally remastered release from Jube Classic sees legendary British conductor Sir Thomas Beecham lead the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in an all-Sibelius programme. Renowned for introducing works by Strauss, Delius, and Sibelius himself to Britain during the 20th century, this release brings together recordings from 1955 of the tone poem The Oceanides, the Symphony No. 7 in C Major, and the highlight of this album, the exquisite Pelléas and Mélisande Suite, originally composed as incidental music for Maurice Maeterlinck's symbolist play of the same title.
