This Naxos release collects together an impressive array of early works by the Italian composer and conductor Ferruccio Busoni, all written before the composer was 15. His admiration for canonical masters such as Mozart and Schumann is apparent, but these are by no means derivative works: Una festa di villagigio is a particularly vibrant example of his early skill and inventive spirit. All six pieces presented here are performed with appropriate vim and vigour by German pianist Wolf Harden and collectively comprise his ninth volume of Busoni's piano music.
