On his debut album, award-winning German violinist Tobias Feldmann is joined by pianist Boris Kusnezow on pieces by Beethoven and Waxman alternating with two works for solo violin that let Feldmann take the spotlight: Eugène Ysaÿe’s frequently played Third Sonata, dedicated to George Enescu, along with Bartók’s formidable Violin Sonata (including the quarter tones in the last movement). Feldmann plays the programme on a 1703 Stradivarius on loan to him.
