Dynasty, released in 1979, was hailed as the return of Kiss as it was their first release of new music in two years. Coming on the heels of the band's second live album and the four solo projects, Dynasty finds the group at a musical crossroads. Italian disco producer Giorgio Moroder, best known for his work with Donna Summer, was even considered as a candidate to produce the album at one point. Indeed the disco influence is very apparent on one of Kiss's biggest singles, the controversial disco-flavoured I Was Made For Lovin' You that even spawned an extended 12" dance mix version. At the time the song polarized fans; over the years the live version has become more rocky, downplaying the disco elements.
"Paul wanted to write a good disco song and I decided to help him ... Paul started to write lyrics and chords then I played the song on the guitar and said 'OK, we'll do something to improve this and make it really a good song.'"
