"We should all stand up and applaud Blue Note for rolling the tapes at Birdland ... to put it simply, Blakey and company had clicked that night ..." - All About Jazz "... this golden quintet (is) fronted by standard-setting new trumpet virtuoso Clifford Brown (fearsome uptempo, and a precocious ballad player at 23) and altoist Lou Donaldson, whose tone was Charlie Parker's yawp given an acid bath. Pianist Horace Silver is funky and resourceful as always, on the cusp of his own bandleading career." - Wondering Sound This is the second volume of a classic live album recorded in February 1954 at New York City nightclub Birdland, originally released on 10" vinyl, later repackaged with volume one and additional material on a 12" LP. Drummer Art Blakey leads the quintet, a nascent Jazz Messengers, but this performance is as much about trumpeter Clifford Brown as Blakey. The rest of the excellent quintet includes Lou Donaldson on alto saxophone, Curley Russell on bass and Horace Silver on piano.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
