This is the second volume of a classic live album recorded in February 1954 at New York City nightclub Birdland, originally released on 10" vinyl, later repackaged with volume one and additional material on a 12" LP. Drummer Art Blakey leads the quintet, a nascent Jazz Messengers, but this performance is as much about trumpeter Clifford Brown as Blakey. The rest of the excellent quintet includes Lou Donaldson on alto saxophone, Curley Russell on bass and Horace Silver on piano.
