Cellist Gavriel Lipkind has been performing solo recitals for cello under the title Single Voice Polyphony for over a decade. His study of hidden polyphony within a single musical line brought about this first recording in a series dedicated to Bach's cello suites, a triple-album set showcasing Lipkind's personal reassessment of these works using his unusual interpretative approach.
"... Bach’s cello suites were the first music I ever tried to play on the cello. Coming from a non-musician family of Bach devotees and Baroque enthusiasts, there was always a sense of a scientific-spiritual-human truth to be discovered in the music of the 'Supreme Master.' This music never mixed with any other. With the introduction of music theory lessons at the conservatory for children, I was at once exposed to concepts, approaches and methods which could be applied to the music externally. The early, innocent, naive contact with Bach was quickly dismissed as childish, simplistic and uncultivated."
