Edward Gardner conducts the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra on the first volume of a series devoted to orchestral works by Leoš Janáček. On this programme are three pieces from Janáček’s late period, when his passion for a young woman inspired an extraordinary flowering of creative genius. The Sinfonietta is one of his most successful and popular works; the Capriccio, scored for left hand piano, brass ensemble and flute, spotlights pianist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet's technique and interpretative flair in the solo part. The Cunning Little Vixen as heard here is the recently restored, striking original orchestration.
