"... offers a wealth of fresh detail and enhanced musicality ...
will truly augment an understanding of the music."
- All About Jazz
"... Hancock’s percussive chords and rhythmic explorations are driven with seemingly unlimited energy. A curtain raiser for more good things to come."
- LondonJazzCollector
Fourteen-time Grammy Award-winner Herbie Hancock is one of the most respected and wildly diverse musicians in jazz history. On his 1964 release Empyrean Isles, featuring the Miles Davis Quintet rhythm section and Freddie Hubbard on cornet, Hancock established himself as a powerful musical and commercial force, returning to a hard bop sound inflected with modal, fusion and free jazz elements. Among the most important jazz albums of the 1960's, Empyrean Isles displays the boundless invention and experimentation that would become Hancock's signature style.
