"... as much an artistic and technical triumph as the three previous releases ... Schnittke's bleak Third Quartet adds to the attractions ..."
- Chicago Tribune
"... the Pacifica turns in brilliant, illuminating performances of the last three quartets, each infused with a different sense of mortality and ending ... as convincing as anything in this series, which I am sorry to see come to an end."
- The Boston Globe
This is the final installment in the Pacifica Quartet's highly praised four-volume survey of the complete Shostakovich string quartets. This volume features Shostakovich's last three string quartets, composed during the 1970s. These quartets are paired with Schnittke's allusive homage, String Quartet No. 3, a work full of quotation including a 12-tone row transposed from a theme by Shostakovich, whose influence was felt throughout Schnittke's career.
