This is the second release in a series of Smetana orchestral works from Gianandrea Noseda, performed with typical assurance by the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. The first volume was highly acclaimed; this programme is made up of the familiar Bartered Bride Overture and Dances with the overtures and ballets of his lesser known operas, including his first opera The Brandenburgers, The Kiss, his first collaboration with brilliant young librettist and poet Eliska Krasnohorska, as well as The Devil’s Wall, all of which demonstrate Smetana’s masterful orchestration, panache and virtuosity.
