"... a magnificent performance of a major choral work of the 20th century ... the orchestra and chorus do total justice to this music ... (the recording) is superb sonically. An outstanding issue!"
- ClassicalCDReview.com
This recording is based on a newly revised edition of Heitor Villa-Lobos's largest symphony, his Symphony No. 10, made by the orchestra’s publishing house in collaboration with the Academia Brasileira de Música. Effectively a hybrid symphony and oratorio for soloists, chorus and orchestra, it is memorable for its stylistic variety and breadth, drawing on many different sources of Brazilian music. This album forms part of the complete cycle of Villa-Lobos’s symphonies with revised scores, a project launched in 2011 under the guidance of maestro Karabtchevsky.
