Digital Booklet
|
"... Getty is an extremely talented, communicative composer ... for any listener who enjoys robust choral writing, good tunes, lively rhythms and ethereal beauty, this can be enthusiastically recommended ... an extraordinarily engaging disc, one to which I shall return many times."
- Fanfare
"... has a kind of charming, late-Romantic appeal, spiced with some more modern harmonic touches ... Getty’s arrangement of Three Welsh Songs, standard tunes featuring new English words by the composer, will bring a smile to many listeners ..."
- ClassicsToday.com
"Four Stars. Any of the works here evoke a mood musically that easily could have come from Beethoven or Schubert ... the performances are outstanding ... sound quality, as usual from PentaTone, is superb. Highly recommended, especially for lovers of choral music, or anyone that yearns for a bygone age."
- Audiophile Audition
Gordon Getty’s principal choral works are performed on this 2005 release by the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra and Chorus led by Michael Tilson Thomas and the Eric Ericson Chamber Choir and Russian National Orchestra, conducted by Alexander Verdernikov. The title work, Young America, is a cycle of six movements for chorus and orchestra to texts by Getty and Stephen Vincent Benét.
