Hilary Davan Wetton leads the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, two choirs and a host of singers on this recording of a Beethoven rarity, the unusual cantata Der glorreiche Augenblick (The Glorious Moment), filled with patriotic praise for Vienna and tributes to the kings and princes of Europe after the defeat of Napoleon. Rounding out the album is the more familiar Choral Fantasia for piano, chorus and orchestra, a work with a main theme that foreshadows the famous Ode To Joy setting Beethoven later devised for his Choral Symphony.
