This album from accordionist Margit Kern provides a hint why so many composers of the 20th and 21st centuries are fascinated by the accordion, an instrument sometimes unfairly only associated with tangos and seafaring songs. With enormous energy and inner calm, Kern presents a virtuosic bouquet of six world premiere recordings, ranging from the creaking, petrified landscapes and glistening light of Babette Koblenz to Earl Kim's moving songs of mourning.
