This 1977 trio session reunites jazz bassist Ron Carter with pianist Herbie Hancock and drummer Tony Williams, the rhythm section from Miles Davis's second great quintet. The Penguin Guide to Jazz has called this Carter's best album; a collection of hard driving, improvised acoustic jazz by three of the best players in the business. The album includes three of the bassist's originals in addition to the reimagining of the Miles Davis standard Stella By Starlight as a waltz and Hancock's evocative Dolphin Dance, all played with a unity of purpose that elevates the music to another place.
