"Such a programme demands exceptional resources in its singer and there is probably no one more suited than Prégardien. He can call upon a silvery spiritual quality ... Gees is one with the singer in the dedication of his own skills and in the imaginative sympathy that informs his touch."
- Gramophone
Life, death and existence are the themes of this double album from lyric tenor Christoph Prégardien and pianist Michael Gees. The programme from the Grammy-nominated duo represents all the masters: Bach, Mahler, Schubert, Schumann, Mozart, Brahms, Tchaikovsky and more. Prégardien frankly admits to admiring the people of Bach’s time somewhat for their trusting relationship to death.
"Today death has been pushed out of our life almost completely, outlawed to the hospital ward ... this is the very reason we have compiled our programme: so that people become a little more aware that death is always in our midst. That we can’t ignore it, but have to accept it."
- Christoph Prégardien
