Digital Booklet
"... Horvitz waxes poetic ... the earthy nobility of this music could easily stand on its own, with no poetic corollary. But that sells something short ..." - The New York Times "Four Stars ... an absorbing collection of music that manages to merge the visceral and intellectual in much the same way that Hugo's writing does ... there's buoyancy, cheer and reflection to be made with this marriage of sounds ... each piece comes from a different place yet they're all part of the same experience, speaking to a single life lived and a specific mind wandering through different states of being." - All About Jazz For this ambitious project supported by San Francisco’s Shifting Foundation, pianist Wayne Horvitz brought together the members of two of his most successful groups to pay tribute to Northwest poet Richard Hugo. Horvitz has often set texts to music, but in this case he wanted to create instrumental music that reflected Hugo’s poems. During live performances, each poem is read aloud following the piece of music named after it. Researching Hugo in the summer of 2014, Horvitz and his daughter Nica took a two-week road trip into Montana to see towns and other places he’d written about; they even stayed in a rustic cabin where Hugo had lived.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
