Impro is a deeply personal project from Ferran Savall, the son of conductor Jordi Savall and the late soprano Montserrat Figueras. Savall sketches a life story through these improvisations; the basis of each is simple ostinati and harmonic patterns revived from the past to enhance and embrace the melodic improvisation of the present moment. Savall is accompanied by guitars and percussion, as well as other instruments such as the oud, the kaval and the viola da gamba, performed by his father on one track. The intimate nature of the album culminates in the track Comiat d’una Mare ("Farewell to a Mother"), dedicated to his mother.
