Digital Booklet
"Claire Bloom delivers (Kaddish) in a calm, inward manner, as if at prayer ... assured, purposeful contributions by the choirs and Alsop's excellent Baltimore Symphony Orchestra ..." - BBC Music Magazine "... this disc is superb. Claire Bloom’s narration is beautifully assimilated into the sound picture. The orchestral playing is razor-sharp, the chorus outstanding. Naxos’s recording has the requisite depth and range." - The Arts Desk "... recorded here in a performance of great conviction from Marin Alsop, with the wonderful Claire Bloom achieving a happy medium between the declamatory and the confidential ... there are instances of pure gold: a consoling lullaby at the heart of the piece (featuring limpid soprano Kelley Nassief) ..." - Gramophone Three examples of Leonard Bernstein’s vocal art can be heard on this recording from Bernstein protégé Marin Alsop, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, three choirs and soloist. Bernstein's Symphony No. 3 ‘Kaddish’ shuns traditional symphonic ideas in favour of an eclectic theatrical and oratorio-like form with a prominent role for speaker, filled here by actress Claire Bloom. For this performance, Alsop has returned to the work’s original narrative text, heard before the 1977 revision. Also on the programme is Bernstein's Missa Brevis and The Lark, heard in a 2012 concert version with added narration by Alsop.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
