Digital Booklet
"Four Stars ... an impassioned and fiercely improvisational collection ... there are surprises on all 11 tracks." - The Guardian "Five Stars ... may ultimately emerge as ECM's most significant archival release to date ... demonstrates just how far this trio had come ... filled with highlights." - All About Jazz This fascinating live set, previously unreleased, was recorded in Munich in April 1981 and shines the spotlight on Magico, a trio of strong and contrasting musical personalities: Norwegian saxophonist Jan Garbarek, Brazilian guitarist-pianist Egberto Gismonti and American bassist Charlie Haden. Carta de Amor documents live renditions of music from the short-lived group's only two albums, the much loved Magico and Folk Songs. Captured live, the songs take on an enhanced improvisational empathy and sensibility honed on the road by the touring band. Repertoire includes five pieces from Gismonti, with the title track played in two variations, opening and closing the album.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
