Digital Booklet
"Editor's Choice ... this terrific performance will leave you equally overwhelmed." - Gramophone "... a dazzling performance ... the recorded sound is superb and the orchestra are on top form throughout with transparent textures even in the most explosive moments. A must have performance to add to the other fine interpretations in this cycle." - Audiophilia "There are a lot of performances of this remarkable symphony but this one stands out as having a truly distinctive and persuasive point of view ... justifies purchasing yet another recording of what is becoming a relatively well known work ... extremely well recorded, naturally balanced and vividly present. Wonderful." - ClassicsToday.com Vassily Petrenko flawlessly guides the Liverpool Philharmonic through every twist, turn and climax in Shostakovich’s remarkable Symphony No. 4 on this critically acclaimed album, recorded in 2013. The composer’s characteristic pathos and intensity pervade the piece, drawing the listener into an inner world of Soviet-era turmoil. Audiophilia included this album on its list of the 15 Star Recordings of the year.

2xHD Mastering: René Laflamme 2xHD Executive Producer: André Perry This album was mastered using our 2xHD proprietary system. In order to achieve the most accurate reproduction of the original recording we tailor our process specifically for each project, using a selection from our pool of state-of-the-art audiophile components and connectors. The process begins with a transfer to analog from the original 24bits/96kHz resolution master, using cutting edge D/A converters. The analog signal is then sent through a hi-end tube pre-amplifier before being recorded directly in DXD using the dCS905 A/D and the dCS Vivaldi Clock. All connections used in the process are made of OCC silver cable. DSD and 192kHz/24Bit versions are separately generated, directly from the analog signal.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
