Christopher Stokes leads the Manchester Cathedral Choir, joined by organist Jeffrey Makinson and acclaimed sopranos Emily Gray (making her debut here at only 15 years of age!) and Claire Buckley, on a programme dedicated to music for Lent and Passiontide. Much like Christmas, Lent and Passiontide have provided composers from every generation with a wealth of material to set to music, either drawn from the Bible or associated, directly or indirectly, with the themes of penitence and the suffering of Christ on the cross. This album provides a diverse sample of that music from a wide range of composers and lyricists.
