With this release, French period instrument ensemble Les Nouveaux Caractères offers a delicate, sensitive journey into instrumental music during the era of Louis XV. These sonatas and character pieces for violin and continuo or for two violins without bass are coupled with works by some of the leading composers of the time. At the heart of the programme is the overture from Jean-Marie Leclair’s opera Scylla et Glaucus, arranged for trio sonata by the composer himself. The ensemble, already well experienced in the performance of operas and musical forms of theatrical inspiration, is led here by award-winning conductor Sébastien D'Hérin.
