Belarusian guitarist Pavel Kukhta offers a diversity of composers from Belarus, Cuba, Spain, Catalonia, Brazil and France on this eclectic recital album, opening with the Baroque style of Galina Gorelova, Leo Brouwer’s Afro-Cuban fusion of influences and the virtuosity of Rodrigo. Kukhta, the winner of the 2015 Heinsberg International Guitar Competition, then delves into the unconventional timbres of Roberto Gerhard and Eduardo Morales-Caso, concluding the programme with Sergio Assad’s meditation on Rio de Janeiro and Roland Dyens’s plaintive evocation of Cuban moods.
