For over 30 years, the award-winning Milwaukee-based ensemble Present Music has been championing new music and working closely with exciting and important contemporary composers to craft a body of work some 10 albums strong. Continuing that tradition, on Passion and Dreams the group spotlights Turkish-American composer Kamran Ince, with whom the ensemble has had more than a 20 year relationship, commissioning 10 pieces by him and performing a third of his complete repertoire. Throughout the programme, Ince’s compositions synthesize the energy and rawness of Turkish and Balkan folk music, the spirituality of Byzantine and Ottoman court music and the traditions of European art music and American popular music. A true collaboration between composer and ensemble, the recording sessions were led by Ince himself who also supervised the final mixing and editing.
