Berlin-based saxophonist Ruth Velten has put together an exciting programme of contemporary music for solo saxophone and electronics on her debut solo album, combining classics of the modern era from Steve Reich and Berio with music of the 21st century by Pierre Jodlowski. Gordon Kampe wrote his unbelievably colourful Ruth’s Piece for the versatile Velten, who displays a range of new performing techniques, virtuoso passagework and gorgeous saxophone sound on both this world premiere recording and the rest of the selections.
