Following an acclaimed recording debut shared with the college choir of St. Catharine’s College, on this album the Saint Catharine’s Girls’ Choir, Cambridge makes its solo debut with a full programme of recent works for upper voices, led by director Edward Wickham. Entitled Ave Maria after the two settings of the text by Rebecca Clarke and Cecilia McDowall contained here, the album consists almost entirely of world premieres. Also featured is Kenneth Leighton’s Missa Cornelia and John Tavener’s challenging Missa Brevis alongside sacred works by Diana Burrell, Joanna Marsh and Judith Bingham.
