Two of Finland's finest come together on this recording devoted to Bach's sonatas. Frequent duo partners, keyboardist Aapo Häkkinen and flutist Pauliina Fred explore the musical hybrid often called Sonaten auf Concertenart (sonatas in concerto style) that became popular in the early part of the 1700s. The lovely Flute Sonata in E Flat Major is perhaps the most popular of the sonatas, holding a special place in the repertory, but all the works presented on this programme by Häkkinen and Fred offer a fascinating insight into Bach's inventive use of the sonata genre.
