The Quatuor Giardini pays tribute to an era when Romanticism replaced mythological fantasy in Baroque opera with fairy tale fantasy on the French stage. This project is constructed like a universal fairy tale inspired by Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty, as set to music by French composers of the Romantic era. It alternates works by famous composers Offenbach, Massenet, Chausson and Rossini, here sung in French, with lesser known names like Viardot and Silver. Conceived and transcribed by Alexandre Dratwicki for piano quartet and two vocalists, the imaginary opera is performed by soprano Jodie Devos and mezzo-soprano Caroline Meng.
