"... Slit Skirts and Uniforms are as pungent as anything he's ever written ... the ambitious collection bristles with intellectual energy. Instrumentally, Pete is still up to his Eminent Guitarist rank and as a vocalist he's better at interpreting his own material than Who-mate Roger Daltrey."
- People
"Four Stars ... there's hardly a misplaced note on this album. Townshend's arrangements surge and subside as gracefully as anything in rock; they're neither static nor jolting. Although the tunes and chord changes won't surprise most Who listeners, they sink in fast ... (Townshend's vocals) are now absolutely secure all the way up his range, with an angelic serenity at the top. He sounds entirely in control ..."
- Rolling Stone
To produce 1982's All The Best Cowboys Have Chinese Eyes, Pete Townshend once again recruited Chris Thomas, who worked his magic on Townshend's previous release and biggest solo hit Empty Glass. The combination proved successful a second time: Townshend scored two major rock radio hits, Slit Skirts and Face Dances, Pt. 2, while the album went top 30 in the US and top 40 in the UK.
