Digital Booklet
|
“The vocal works are all lovely, and also are extremely well done.”
- David Hurwitz, ClassicsToday.com
“Plenty... to captivate and intrigue Sibelians everywhere. As usual, BIS’s production values and presentation leave nothing to be desired.”
- Andrew Achenbach, Gramophone
This release brings together vocal and orchestral music by Sibelius, performed by an orchestra ideally placed to interpret his work, the Finnish Lahti Symphony Orchestra. Three works included here—Kullervon valitus, Luonnotar, and Väinön virsi—were inspired by the Kalevala, an epic poem comprised of Finnish mythology, while the remaining vocal works use Swedish texts. These pieces are complemented by orchestral works, including the exotic Scène de ballet.
