Digital Booklet
While the German tradition observes a strict distinction between sacred and secular styles, the 19th century Italian Mass can feel more akin to an operatic performance. Donizetti’s church music, largely unexplored, consists of at least 100 pieces: individual movements were often later recycled by the composer, in cantata-like fashion, to form a complete Mass and it is this ad hoc technique that Franz Hauk used to create his original work the Messa di Gloria and Credo. It includes an expansive Qui sedes with its solo written for the famous violinist and composer Pietro Rovelli and is completed with movements by Johann Simon Mayr from whom Donizetti learned his compositional craft in settings of sacred texts. Hauk leads the Concerto de Bassus and two vocal ensembles on this unique album, recorded in Germany in 2014.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
