"... an excellent account of the complete incidental music to A Midsummer Night’s Dream ... an astonishing piece of work ... some delightful stuff ..."
- Classic FM

"Five Stars ... lovingly attentive Mendelssohn ... it was the consistent suavity of the LSO’s playing under Gardiner’s baton that impressed most of all. The winds were outstanding in Mendelssohn’s shimmering score, but Gardiner was not afraid to let the sturdier side of Mendelssohn’s writing have its voice ... some of the rarely played accompaniments in the lower strings had an almost Wagnerian tonality."
- The Guardian

Continuing his award-winning cycle, Sir John Eliot Gardiner leads the London Symphony Orchestra, his Monteverdi Choir and three talented young actors on a landmark live performance of Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, recorded in February 2016 as part of the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death. To mark the celebrations, Gardiner produced a special version of the work featuring some cuts to the original movements, removing all of the music relating to the mechanicals and thus focusing on the world of the fairies and the human lovers.

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
