Pure Noise Records releases the companion piece to Spanish Love Songs' third full-length album, Brave Faces Everyone, entitled Brave Faces Etc.
That album — produced by McAulay at Howard Benson’s West Valley Recording — sought to find balance between realism and optimism. It implored us to harbor less judgment and more empathy, to talk less and listen more. To understand that life never goes off the rails all at once. Rather, it’s a years-long series full of seemingly imperceptible events that snowball into life-altering issues like heroin addiction, mental illness or suicide. But just as things didn’t break overnight, happiness and redemption aren’t as simple as a flip of the switch. It’s a day-by-day, step-by-step climb we have to work to attain.
Brave Faces Etc. features reimagined & alternative versions of the original 2020 release.
“Right before the one year anniversary of the album, we decided we wanted to revisit the songs the same way we had been reimagining our previous albums on our Patreon community.” says singer Dylan Slocum. “I don’t know that any of us has ever been happy with a finished album we’ve released, so this was our chance to try out some of things we didn’t get to do on the original, whether due to budget, running out of time, etc. At the same time, we saw it as a chance to challenge ourselves a bit musically, and expand the sound of the band to better reflect where we’re all at in terms of songwriting and production.”
