Digital Booklet
Mariss Jansons is considered one of the most outstanding podium personalities of our time. Born in 1943, he completed his musical education at the Leningrad Conservatory and passed with distinction. Afterwards he studied in Vienna under Hans Swarowsky and in Salzburg under Herbert von Karajan. From 1979 to 2000 Mariss Jansons set standards as Chief Conductor of the Oslo Philharmonic, which he formed into a top international orchestra. In addition he was Principal Guest Conductor of the London Philharmonic Orchestra (1992-1997) and Music Director of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (1997-2004). In 2003, Mariss Jansons became the Chief Conductor of the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks (BRSO). From 2004 to 2015, he also assumed the post of Chief Conductor of the Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest in Amsterdam. Additionally, he also worked regularly with the Berlin and Vienna Philharmonic Orchestras. His contract with the BRSO should have lasted until 2024. On this live, post-humous release, Jansons leads the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra through a programme of large-scale orchestral works from Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky & Varèse!

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
