Aufgelebt is about revival, rebirth and new creation, about the promise of a new beginning. Beethoven worked on his Piano Concerto No. 4 and Op. 61a (piano version of a violin concerto) in the same period of his life. Both concertos were neglected and would have been forgotten if they had not caught the attention of Felix Mendelssohn, who revived the Fourth Piano Concerto in 1836 and conducted the Violin Concerto in 1844. Since then, these two concerts have been regarded as masterpieces of classical music literature. The Violin Concerto had another chance for rebirth long before the success of the young Joachim. After attending the premiere of the work, Muzio Clementi asked Beethoven for a transcription of the work for piano and orchestra. The composer promptly complied with his request and at the same time enriched the concert with authentic cadenzas, the first of which - in the first movement - is something very special, because the piano is accompanied by timpani!

What is High-Resolution Audio?

High-resolution audio offers the highest-fidelity available, far surpassing the sound quality of traditional CDs. When you listen to music on a CD or tracks purchased via consumer services such as iTunes, you are hearing a low-resolution version of what was actually recorded and mastered in the studio. ProStudioMasters offers the original studio masters — exactly as the artist, producers and sound engineers mastered them — for download, directly to you.

What do I need for playback?

You may need additional software / hardware to take full advantage of the higher 24-bit high-res audio formats, but any music lover that has heard 16-bit vs 24-bit will tell you it's worth it!
