On a rainy night in Langenæs Church during Aarhus Festuge 2019, the avant-garde rock trio SVIN and Århus Sinfonietta united in the performance of the work Elegi, released now as a digital album on Dacapo Records. The work is composed by SVIN for three strings, three percussionists, three winds from the Aarhus Sinfonietta and the three members of SVIN. The two ensembles are intertwined and their instruments are pushed to the edge of their tonal potential, in a work that contains features from both classical music, ritual rock rhythms and a sense of zen.
Elegi is a work consisting of 10 movements, with roots in the classical music traditions from both east and west. Through the music of the small hour, ELEGI rises from a bottom of thoughtful melancholy up to a level of high energy. It is thoroughly composed music with elements of tight improvisation and with a wide palette of sounds and textures, both acoustic and electronic.
