“Most people probably know Big Bad Voodoo Daddy as one of the core acts behind the swing revival that took place in the mid-90s, rising to success alongside acts like the Squirrel Nut Zippers and Cherry Poppin’ Daddies. Even with a handful of hits making their way across mainstream airwaves, the ‘kings of swing’ have never wavered when it comes to sticking to the traditional jazz they built their own sound on.”
- Glide Magazine
Louie Louie Louie is Big Bad Voodoo Daddy’s eleventh studio album, and reveals the evolution of swing, jazz and popular music through the songs of Louis Armstrong, Louis Jordan and Louis Prima, three artist that revolutionized American music in the earliest days of New Orleans jazz and ragtime.
“From the moment we decided to make Louie, Louie, Louie, I knew we had to record Dinah! Its one of those songs that has always felt like a snapshot of a moment in time, and after doing some research on the tune, it turns out it has a little history as well. It’s one of the first popular tunes to have a scat vocal in it. Improvisation was something that all the musicians had been doing on their instruments until Louis Armstrong did it with his vocal. Dinah is the perfect time machine to open this new record.”
